The Princeton Review Ranks Cal State Long Beach Among Top 75 ‘Best Value’ Public Colleges in Nation

Cal State Long Beach has once again been named one of the nation’s “Best Value” public colleges and universities by The Princeton Review, which teamed up with USA Today to announce its list of the 150 “Best Value Colleges for 2012.” The Princeton Review selected the 150 institutions – 75 public and 75 private – as its “best value” choices for 2012 based on its surveys of administrators and students at 650 colleges and universities the company regards as the nation’s academically best undergraduate institutions.

CSULB Chemistry/Biochemistry Major Among Recipients of Howell- CSUPERB Research Scholar Award

For his proposal to study how second-hand smoke exposure may predispose women to heart disease, a Cal State Long Beach chemistry/biochemistry major has received a $3,000 scholarship as one of this year’s recipients of the Howell-CSUPERB Research Scholar Award. CSUPERB (CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology) has partnered with the Doris A. Howell Foundation for Women’s Health Research to fund promising undergraduate student research projects in topics related to women’s health.

CSULB Officials to Speak at 3 Local Churches to Encourage College Preparation as Part of Super Sunday

A trio of Cal State Long Beach officials will take part in Super Sunday 2012, a statewide effort that features leaders from throughout California State University (CSU) system speaking at more than 100 predominantly African American churches throughout the state in February. The event reaches more than 100,000 churchgoers and is part of CSU’s outreach to educate students and families about the requirements to successfully enter college.

Baseball Player, Women’s Soccer Player Named LBSU’s 2011 Big West Conference Scholar-Athletes

Baseball player Brennan Metzger and women’s soccer goalkeeper Kaitlyn Gustaves have been named Long Beach State’s Big West Conference Scholar-Athlete’s for 2011. The award is given to one female and one male student-athlete each season who best represent combined excellence in competition on the field as well as in the classroom.
