CSULB Students to Compete
in Statewide Research Competition

Ten students from California State University, Long Beach will participate in the 17th annual CSU Student Research Competition on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, at Cal State Stanislaus.

The systemwide competition showcases research conducted by CSU undergraduate and graduate students in a full range of academic programs offered by the CSU. Student participants will make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major coporation, foundations, public agencies and colleges and universities in California.

Among those who will be representing Cal State Long Beach (and the categories they will be competing in) at the statewide competition are: Tiffany Potter (biological and agricultural sciences); Joanne Lee, Eugene Shin and Daniel Edson Antezana (business, economics and public administration); Sue Hogan and George Gomez-Wheeler (creative arts and design); Stanley Baksi (engineering and computer science); Sarah Jaffray (humanities and letters); Roger L. York (physical and mathematical sciences); and Justin Goss (behavioral and social sciences).

Cash prizes will be awarded to the outstanding presenter and the runner-up in both the undergraduate and graduate division in each of the nine categories in the competition. In addition, following the Student Research Competition, selected research summaries will be published in Conference Proceedings. Each campus may deliver a maximum of 10 presentations.

To get to the statewide competition, the CSULB students were among the top prize-winners at the campus¿ annual Student Research Competition last month. There were 43 total contestants in that competition with the top two presenters in each category being honored--$200 for first place and $100 for second place.
